Reviews for 2010 Stitch 'N Pitch

Simply put: it ROCKED! Some 600 eager knitters and crocheters descended on the Rogers Centre (the beautiful stadium formerly known as Skydome). The roof was open, the weather perfect. The knitterati came from all corners of the GTA. The new goodie bags were admired by all. There was gleeful delight on the winners' faces when they found prize-vouchers under their seats.

The Yarn Harlot held court before the game, posing for pictures with arriving yarnaholics, signing books and baseball tickets, and admiring the knitterabilia sported by those brave enough to wear them on a sultry summer evening, before venturing onto the field to throw out the first pitch. The Blue Jays and Orioles served up a truly exhilarating game. There was beer, ballpark food, stitchery and laughter.

Congratulations and many thanks to Paul Rabeau (and intern Katie) of the Rogers Centre, and especially to organizer Haley Waxberg (of Knitomatic) for an event so perfectly coordinated that the fun simply flowed.

The Jays new shortstop phenom Yunel Escobar executed an astounding behind-the-back toss to 2nd-baseman Aaron Hill a move reminiscent of the glory days of Roberto Alomar (who just happened to be in the broadcast booth for an interview with the Rogers Sportsnet Blue Jays coverage team at the time, but we didn't get to see that at the park). Right-fielder Jose Bautista belted a 3-run blast to the left-field 2nd deck in the first inning, and later another 2-run shot in the eighth to give the Blue Jays a six-run lead, supporting a very solid start from left-hand pitcher Ricky Romero. Final score was 8-2 for us (our sympathies to long-suffering Baltimore).

Q. What gate do we enter?
A. Enter at Gate 1: the easiest way to get there is to take the subway to Union station and take skywalk from there to the Rogers Centre - Gate 1

Q. Where and when is the meet & greet with the Yarn Harlot?
A. 5:30pm is a good time to aim to be at the gate so you can make it by 5:45pm. Enter at Gate 1, follow the directions to where your seats are and you'll see the meet & greet in the mezzanine.

Q. How will I know if I won a Prize? How do I collect it?
A. There will be a note on your seat if you have won a prize. You can take the note AND your admission ticket stub to a "Prize" table in the mezzanine (by the concession stands) to collect your prize. Please be patient, there are a lot of prizes and there will probably be a line. Be sure to collect your prize by 9pm.

It looks like the online ticketing is up and running! Sorry it took so long, the Blue Jays have been having problems with their system this year.

How to buy tickets online:
1. go HERE

2. in the lower, left corner, is a box titles "Promotional Code". Type GP-SNP10 and press the green "go" button. A box should pop-up with a green check-mark and says "The promotional code you have entered was accepted." Click the green "OK" and the box will go away.

3. On the upper, right hand side of the page, choose the number of tickets you want. If you want an aisle seat you should click on that box. DO NOT choose a section, the system will do that for you. Click the green "Get Seats" button.

4. Review your order. The system has a strange price break-down: $16 for the ticket, $4 for the ticket (it's a strange accounting thing, but the base price of the ticket is $20), and $4.20 charge for buying your ticket online. The total should come to $24.20 per ticket. Click the green "Continue" button.

5. Follow the further instructions given, the system will ask you to log in or create an account.

6. Choose the way you want to receive your tickets: mailed, picked up, or printed online. Additional costs will be applied to your total. Click the green "Continue" button to pay.

7. Review your order details. Choose your method of payment: Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Fill in your payment information. Click the green "Buy" button.

8. Follow the rest of the instructions the system provides. If you chose to print out your tickets the system will prompt you.
